How to Add Slabs of Beef to Your Pecs Fast – The Old School Way

0

Personally, I think all of these chest routines that you see in the magazines and online these days are pure junk.

Back in the day the focus was on being as strong as you looked and also on being athletic as well.

Flat benches were not all the rage and yet the bodybuilders back in the fifties and sixties built massive chests-and had tons of muscle everywhere else to go along with their big pecs.

Read on to find out how they did it.

OLD SCHOOL CHEST TRAINING

Many people feel that the flat bench press is the best chest exercise around and it is for some people, but for many the only thing that it ends up building is massive triceps or massive front delts.

If you are one of those people try this drop the flat benches for awhile and try doing dips.

The dips I am talking about are not triceps dips that you do between benches but are done using parallel bars-they are known as parallel bar dips.

Dips have all but been forgotten and this is a shame because they work the chest hard.

Start out slowly with dips and only add weight when you can do an easy set of twenty with just your body weight-and then only add a small amount of weight.

When you start adding weight stick to the tried-and-tested 5×5 (that is five sets of five reps per set, for a total of twenty five reps) program.

A point: Never add weight just to add weight only do so when you can add weight without giving up good form-all this does is set you up for an injury.

Up next we have pullovers

Pullovers were another staple exercise way back when and for good reason-they work the upper body hard.

However, what they really do well is to help stretch-out the rib cage.

Yes, some people will say that you cannot stretch-out the rib cage, but I know that my rib cage has been stretched so I know that it is possible.

What this does is help to create depth in your chest so that you do not disappear when you turn sideways.

While you can go heavy on pullovers, a good way to use them is as a finisher.

By this I mean, when you have finished you chest workout for the day, end with one or two sets of barbell pullovers (although they can be done with dumbbells as well) done for twenty reps a set.

Take you time with these, making sure you get a nice stretch-do not rush them.

SOME POINTS

Dips can also be used as a finisher as well and not as a power movement.

But if you decide to end your workout with a high rep set of dips be careful as you will not have as much energy, so the minute your form begins to break down-stop.

Same goes for pullovers, if you feel that you are not up to ending your workout with one or two sets of high rep pullovers-do not do them-there is always another workout.

Remember it always pays to be safe rather than sorry.

CONCLUSION

There you have it, two old school chest blasters that, if used regularly, will help your chest explode to new levels of growth.
